Plywood is available in four common grades. We carry four grades of plywood : A, B, C and D. The grade refers to the quality and appearance of the plywood ’s face and back veneers. A has the highest quality and is the most expensive, and D is the least expensive.

A-grade plywood features a smooth, sanded surface without knots. The number of defects in a panel - and the amount of work a wood mill has done to repair the defects - will determine the grade and the price of plywood. Grades AA through E represent the quality of each side of the sheet of plywood , with grade AA being the highest quality with no defects in the visible veneer. All large knots are replaced with football-shaped patches, which can be sanded and finished with the rest of the panel. Grade A-shop plywood should be as close to perfect as possible.

Both faces should be from single sheet veneers. There should be no gaps or voids in the surface and no visible patches. If you can cut around or hide the defect, there is no reason not to use it in any project. Which is the best plywood?
