The task of road proofing this guitar took me a couple of days only because I was not on a time budget. The finish hardens and protects just like the finishes of vintage guitars. Polyvinyl and Urethane finishes are much more durable but they are also prone to chipping. When those finishes are chipped - there is nothing you can do about the chip aside from filling the chip. I slathered big thick coats of Tung Oil on my Gibson neck as much as possible before it would get to the dripping point , and let it dry hours between coats ( or more if it felt tacky) - about coats and it looks as thick and shiny like a thick glass coated Auto finish-or a Gibson.


I am about to finish my warmoth neck with tru oil and have a waterslide decal. Should I put some tru oil on first then the decal then more tru oil ? Notice the soft ‘honey’ glow. I have searched the net and kind find anything.
