Port orford cedar

It is native to Oregon and northwestern California, and grows from sea level up to 5m (9ft) in the valleys of the Klamath Mountains, often along streams. It is renowned for its strength, stability, and structural integrity. This strong and durable wood is beautiful and can used for many types of wood products. It was and still is often used in their furniture and temples.

Cedar is known as the easiest wood to straighten, takes stain nicely, and is the best choice for building arrows. E ach shaft will have grain that runs end to end. Hand spined within pounds and 33″ in length. Port Orford Cedar , also know as “ Oregon Cedar” , is our favorite wood.


As logs, mostly exported to Japan, it brings higher prices than almost any other conifer in the United States. It is found at an elevation of 9ft (5m) in the valleys of Klamath River. It has feathery, bluish-green foliage with the pollen cones above and the young seed cones appearing below.

In fact it is stronger than all other cedars and redwood. It is also one of the strongest cedars with strength values comparable to Douglas Fir. It is one of the primary conifers associated with riparian areas and Darlingtonia wetlands in the serpentines of the Klamath-Siskiyou Mountains. Port-Orford-cedar Conservation. As strength tests have shown, it’s the strongest decking material available for wood deck construction. It helps to calm the mind and promotes a peaceful state, similar to walking in a boreal forest. It is a strengthening oil that can reduce fatigue and weakness simply through inhalation. Our signature wood can be used for multiple applications and is highly prized by wooden boat builders. It is light colore very strong and very resinous, almost sticky to the touch.


It is used for making arrow shafts and musical instruments as well as being used extensively in Japanese timber framing. Pronunciation: kam-e-SIP-a-ris la-so-ni-A-na. Family: Cupressaceae.


The pathogen that causes Port - Orford - cedar root disease is not native to the Pacific Northwest. We custom mill to customer specs and produce lumber from select tight knot (STK) to vertical grain clears (VGC). We serve the community of Curry County including the cities of Gold Beach, Brookings, and beyond. It has a very limited range along the Pacific Coast, from Southern Oregon into far northern California. This makes it highly prized for boat building and architectural features.
