Measure these obstructions from the studs and transfer the measurements to the drywall and mark them with a pencil (Image 2). This is much easier once you have one end resting on the wood block on the wall.


If you’re hanging your sheets horizontally, measure 48” down from the ceiling and place a mark on two studs. Insert one drywall screw deep enough into each stud to hold your piece of wallboard. You’re essentially making a ledge to rest a large piece of wallboard on. The standard method of hanging ceiling drywall is to position the panels perpendicular to the joists, which will also be perpendicular to the furring strips.
